This study aims to evaluate the field performance and the efficiency of ventilation systems in school buildings. Three classrooms installed with ventilation systems in a high school in Seoul were selected as a test bed for this study. The ventilation systems consisted of two types of multi air-conditioning ventilation system and a window type air-conditioning ventilation system. The ventilation performance was measured by the blower door and tracer gas methods as follows: (1) Evaluation of air tightness and air infiltration in the classrooms; (2) Indoor ventilation performance based on the operating condition of ventilation systems; (3) Ventilation performance based on the operating conditions of ventilation systems and air-conditioners; and (4) Local ventilation efficiency and performance based on the operating status of the ventilation systems and air-conditioners. As a result, the ventilation efficiency was measured at 34.8%-97.8% for the duct type of ventilation and 82.6% for the window type ventilation. In this study, classroom characteristics such as high air infiltration low air tightness lowered the ventilation effectiveness. The ventilation efficiency varied based on the location of air inlet and outlet ducts and the existence of furniture. However, local ventilation efficiency was not significantly affected according to the results of this study. The results showed that a ventilation rate of 1000 cubic meters per hour (CMH) or more would be required to maintain 1000 ppm of CO2 concentrations as per IAQ criteria for Korean classrooms.

In any given environment, visibility is a critical element that affects fear of crime. This study provides empirical evidence of the effects of visibility on fear of crime within elementary schools using a quantitative analysis. Spots in which children felt fear were identified, and their characteristics were analyzed according to the four visibility dimensions of: visual connectivity and visual integration, each with and without visible distance restrictions. One finding was that fear of crime was high in the areas where visibility was either extremely low or extremely high, resulting in a relationship that can be expressed as a U-shaped graph. In addition, fear of crime was associated with visibility in relation to human behaviors as well as built environments. Finally, the visibility distance was also found to be an important element affecting fear of crime.

This paper analyzes and considers the main features of the Japanese avant-garde movement ″Metabolism″ that appeared on the scene of the architectural world in the early 60s. The originality of the concepts developed by its members and the innovative design of their projects captured the attention of many critics, in Japan as well as abroad, who often either misunderstood or neglected most of the original theories of the group. Therefore, it seems that furthermore analysis could be necessary to clarify some points of metabolist group′s activity, and to reach a better understanding of the historical context in which Metabolism has originated and developed, as well as of its aims.

This research seeks to evaluate the experience of nature in the architectural instruments as created by Le Corbusier, in terms of the phenomenology of corporal experience. The architecture of Le Corbusier is active in viewing the spectacular landscape of nature through frontal localization, windows, ramps, and roof gardens. His architecture has the attitude of separating from earth and opposing and viewing nature as an autonomic machine. The nature experience of Le Corbusier is largely divided into seeing from on high and seeing while walking. Considering the senses of the body and the aspects of movement responding to each situation, the experience of seeing and contemplating nature on a large scale has an abstract quality. Seeing nature as an object from afar basically limits the experience in the information of the senses and the abstraction of nature. For the concrete experience of nature, what is needed is the idea that the body takes part in the diverse sensorial worlds and is simultaneously taken in by the situation. This research also aims to reconsider the qualities of experiences of nature, based on the modernity characterized by the separation of human from nature and sprit from body.

The perception of crowding and the shopping environment can influence consumers' decisions on where to shop as well as their buying decision and store image. The purpose of the study is to investigate the effects of store layout design and factors about the consumer on the perception of store crowding and in turn analyze the impact of perceived crowding on shopping behavior and store image. Surveys were conducted at two discount stores in Taipei City, Taiwan. A total of 532 questionnaires were used for analysis. Spatial crowding was assessed using physical area factors including floor layout designs, aisle table area, and ceiling height. Perceptions of crowding resulted from the spatial arrangement, while human crowding contributed to the feeling of overall store crowding. Among a store's physical area factors, aisle table area most strongly impacts the overall degree of perceived store crowding, followed by free-flow layout and grid layout areas. Among various individual factors, age and prior experience of crowding are significantly related to perceived crowding. The results showed that perceptions of spatial crowding had a negative relationship to promotional image while perceptions of human crowding had a positive relationship to discount store image.

Because many people are acquiring settled dwellings in Inner Mongolia, they now no longer live in Yurts only. This article probes the extension of the traditional culture of Yurts by analyzing and studying the distribution and orientation of the earth brick house and cave dwellings compared with Yurts.
